10-30-2004 - "and he will help you"
Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. 4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. 5 Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you."

- I've been skimming through the Psalms during the last week, and I've found it really invigorating, and live-giving. there's so much truth in the words and meditations of the Psalms. I especially love what it says here in chapter 37. "Commit everything you do to the Lord, trust him and he will help you". God promises that he will never fail us, that he will always "help" us. He doesn't promise to make everything perfect, but he promises to always be faithful. To always give us more than we need to face the trials of life if we depend on him.

10-24-2004 - whirlwind
wow, the last few days flew by. We first played in the lovely Lexington Kentucky on Thursday night, and then we drove to Louisville, then flew out to Washington D.C. to play at "America for Jesus" an event held every 4 years I believe at "the mall" within view of the Washington monument. it was pretty cool. there was about 2000 people there when we played at around noon eastern time on Friday, we only had time for 3 songs, but the crowds responded really well, and we had ourselves a little church service in the middle of the afternoon in 50 degree weather. it was fun. Originally the estimated attendance was expected to reach 500,000 people. Obviously, that didn't happen, but it definitely didn't matter, we had a great time. We then flew back to Louisville going on about 2 hours of sleep and played a concert in Sellersburg, Indiana, just north of Louisville. It was a small, but energetic crowd, that ended up sponsoring 30 children through World Vision, which was really quite amazing...Then last night we played our final show on the tour in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The little city that sounds like a state. We played in a beautiful old church which sounded really great. It was of course the last day of the tour so everybody got pranked except for us for some reason...we're that intimidating I guess. ?? anyways, so we're back in Nashville for a week and a half, and already missing being on tour. later y'all. Jon.

10-15-2004 - Wichitaaaa
We're in Wichita Kansas today. I heard a claim that it's the biggest city in the state because Kansas city is divided by 2 states. Kansas, and Missouri. Anyways, that's my random fact for the day. It's windy out, which is what I would expect from Kansas...atleast after seeing "the wizard of oz". So I'd say Kansas is living up to the hype :) - Jon.

10-12-2004 - Rainy Day...
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far out weighs them all. So we fix our eyes on not what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal." 2Corinthians 4:17-20.

As a lot of you probably assume or know from experience, being on the road can be a trying time. It's a tough thing to remain focussed on the task that God has put in front of you when you have very limited contact with friends and family, and very little that remains consistent. It's definitely been tough for us. I guess the reason I'm writing this journal entry is to ask for your prayers. Pray that we would know God's peace and lasting value in all that we do, and that we would trust Him to lead us on the path that he has set before us. Also please pray that would be refreshed and re-energized by the Holy Spirit in our lives individually and as a band. It's so easy for us to lose perspective on what is really important. It is a constant struggle for us to "fix our eyes on not what is seen but what is unseen".

Anyways, thanks for all of you who are praying and supporting us. We value you greatly. We're home for a couple of days in Nashville, then back on the road again. Jon.

10-11-2004 - Ohiooooo
Back in Ohio today! in a town called Mansfield. And apparentely the show is sold out today which should be very fun. Oh, and the show yesterday in Grand Rapids was sold out as well. It was a really great/energetic crowd in a packed out church. So, everybody had a lot of fun yesterday. I'm pretty sure they were all there to see Barlow Girl though. so therefore the Barlow Girls stole the show I would say. In any case, this is the last show of this run of the tour, and unfortunately it will be the last for our friends from Buidling 429. We've had a really great time getting to know the guys and hanging out a lot. We'll miss them. They're heading off on tour with Jeremy Camp. Check out their site at: www.building429.com if you have a minute. Well, a big thanks to all of you who have come out to shows in the last week. And ofcourse a big thanks to all of you who keep up with us on our site every now and then. We value your support. God Bless, Jon.

10-07-2004 - Zanesville, Ohio
Howdy!! We're back on the road after 3 days off in Nashville. We actually got to go to an evening young adult church on tuesday night which was really refreshing. We've been so busy that we haven't been able to go to church for a long while. Needless to say, it was good to feel like a part of a church community even if it was just for one night. Sooo...here we are in Ohio again. One of my favoriite states I have to say. Probably just because they have a coffee/donut shop here called Tim Hortons, and Tim Hortons as some of you may know is THE canadian coffee shop. There's a Tim Hortons in every town on every corner in Canada. So it's a little piece of home when we get to go to one of the very few Timmy's down here. Anyways, hopefully we'll find one. That's all for today. Thanks for your support and your prayers. Jon.

10-02-2004 - West Munroe, Louisiana
We had a great show tonight in West Munroe. There was about 1000 people packed into a high school theatre. And it was really fun. that's about all I have to say tonight. nothing profound. OH, we played tennis this afternoon with David Nasser (the speaker on the tour) it was really hot out, and we didn't get a chance to shower before the show. why am I telling you this? I don't know...anyways, not showering = not fun. it was a good day. buhbye. Jon.

10-01-2004 - Denham Springs, Louisiana
Well, I'm back from Canada. And glad to be back might I add. It was my best friend's wedding last sunday and it was really great. I'm glad I could be home to support him. But in turn I had to have a friend of mine (Toby) fill in for me for a couple of dates. So now I'm back at it. We're in a town called Denham Springs tonight. You know I'm not even sure where we are in Louisiana. that happens a lot when you're on a tour bus. Don't know exactly where you are from day to day. Hold on I'm gunna check a map. (pause) okay, we're actually just outside of Baton Rouge. We've actually played in Baton Rouge before for an "Aquire the fire" event put on by Teen-Mania back in March I believe. All I remember was that is was blistering hot. and it still is :) I'm such a northern boy, always complaining about the heat. I suppose I should be happy. well, in any case it's good to be back on the road. later, Jon.

09-27-2004 - Huntsville, AL
today we got to spend 40 minutes under the Alabama sun with 1000+ of Huntsvilles finest christian music fans... at a festival that featured a christian stage. The ITNOL tour (that we're a part of) was joined by tree 63 for this particular date... cool guys! interesting accents... we got a chance to check out some of the other acts on the other stages... Collective Soul was a highlight... Olivia Newton John was another... well... that's not really true... she was actaully kind of boring... we waited around hoping to here her sing something from 'grease' but it never happened... another interesting thing about today's show was that two of the starboys were not present... jon and john both took off to attend weddings in Canada! it's the first time in 6 years that i've done a show without my brother... he was missed.... but the gig went well! God is good!!

09-24-2004 - Just south of chicago
Yes, that's as close as we got. Bourbannais Illinois. I was hoping we'd get a chance to check out downtown Chicago today, but we had a previous engagement with the college christian radio station here on campus. So shopping in Chicago will have to wait until another day. I've heard it's a great city though, can't wait to hang out there some day. We play tonight here in Bourbannais. later dawgs. :) Jon.

09-23-2004 - Peoria, Illinois
Playing at a convention center in downtown Peoria, Illinois today. Looks like a pretty cool place. I'm sure it'll be fun. we're ready to rock. and then only a 2 hour drive tonight to Bourbannais tomorrow. So we're thinkin of maybe driving into Chicago to hang out. we'll see. Anyways, that's all. take care. Jon.

09-22-2004 - Appleton, Wisconsin
We are currently in Appleton Wisconsin, after a day off in Nashville. It's the afternoon before the concert tonight and we're currently just chilling in the hotel, showering and such before heading back to the venue. Which I might add is an incredible venue. Really big soft seater theater, which is brand new, and amazingly posh. We are un-worthy. But, I'm still excited to play in it. We'll take lots of pictures and put them on the site tomorrow. I promise. Anyways, we're doing well. Thanks for your prayers. Jon.

09-19-2004 - Going to Carolina in my mind
Except that we're actually here, and don't need to imagine it....what? I'm in a weird mood. anyways, that's right, here we are in Wilmington, NC. and we already played tonight. Infact I can hear Building 429 rockin it out in the sanctuary as I type. They're all from North Carolina, so this is somewhat of a home-town crowd for them. Needless to say, the crowd is pretty into it. Also, I must mention that we went to a restaurant right on the water today, and ordered fishy things...personally, I kept it safe and got fish and chips...didn't wanna try some fish I'd never heard of, topped in some fish dressing I'd never heard of. Anyways, it was good. Tomorrow it's back to Nashville for a day and a half before we hit the road again. - Jon.

09-18-2004 - The Tour Begins!!
We Kicked of the "In the name of love" tour a few days ago in Jackson Mississippi, and we've since played in Murfreesboro, and Knoxville, Tennesee. It's been great so far. We kick off the evening every night with a few songs, and just basically get the people groovin and movin. It's been a really great thing for us to be able to hang out with the other bands (Building 429, Barlow Girl, and Todd Agnew) and just share experiences and have comradery with people that are in a similar position that we are. It's like a big family out there on the road. Currenly we are in Gadsden Alabama, showering in the hotel before we head back to the venue to soundcheck around 4pm this afternoon. Oh,and I almost forgot, we're on a tour-bus! a real bonified tour-bus. it is sweeeet. It's gunna be hard to go back to a van that doesn't have satellite tv, bathroom, fridge, microwave, and 12 bunks...it's pretty great. nice to not have to drive anywhere too. Anyways, this is getting too long. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel and play. For safety and for effective communication of God's desire to see people serve him with their lives. later, Jon.

09-11-2004 - Kentucky
We just played our afternoon set at "Shout-fest" in Somerset Kentucky. The weather was great, the people were fun, and we had a really good time. We're just chillin at our favorite hotel "Hampton Inn" for a while, before heading back to the festival tonight to hang out. Then off to Virginia tomorrow for more of the same. We're havin a good time...

09-03-2004 - ramblings...
just wanted to take the time to thank everyone thats sent in an encouraging word via email over the last couple weeks... your words truly bless us as we endevour to share our music on the road... God has kept us healthy and unified during the last few months of touring but we still need your prayer and support! It's amazing to me how quickly we jumble up our priorities when we're not allowing ourselves to be renewed through prayer, and community... after so many years of lessons learned and re-learned i still struggle in the thick of things to put away my own pride and serve others for the greater good ... i've got a long way to go but i don't go it alone.

08-27-2004 - Georgia on my mind
Hey. We played tonight in Brunswick, Georgia with Casting Crowns. it was really cool. Great response from the crowd. I think we almost sold out of CD's. Anyways, it's hot like a monkey in a hot-tub down here, even in the middle of the night, it's huuuuuuuuuumid. you start to sweat instantly. I miss that northern air. But other than the humidity, we can't really complain. it's a nice place. annnyways, we're playing up in South Carolina tomorrow, and then home for a few days....life is good. later, Jon.

08-24-2004 - Security
1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."

I've been having a lot of conversations about how in the culture we live in, we put so much of our security in our wealth. But God commands us to be completely dependent on him for everything. When we get enough money, or security we feel safe, but the truth is, God doesn't want us to live safely. He wants us to take a risk and live dangerously for him. It's okay to have wealth, But only if we hold loosely to it.

Something to think about. :) - Jon.

08-21-2004 - Sweet home Alabama
Howdy! well we're at a hotel just outside of Birmingham Alabama. We're playing twice today. once at Hopefest in Pell City, and then opening for Casting Crowns in Empire Alabama. It's gunna be nuts! Hopefully we can make it in time for the 2nd gig. Anyways, it's nice here, feels a lot like Nashville, which I guess makes sense since it's straight south of Nashville. We're heading back home for 4 days off tonight! weeeee!!! over and out. - Jon.

08-18-2004 - texas bound
it's 12:50 am... i'm about to get some sleep before our early morning departure for Longview... We've never played the great state of Texas before sooo.... i guess we can check one more state off the ole' 'have we, or have we not rocked it' list... i think that's all for tonight...

08-13-2004 - JAMA
So we're waiting for a flight out of Los Angeles that will take us through the night to North Carolina...another 'red-eye' flight to mess up our bio-rythms... This weekend was such a great time! we played for five thousand crazy Koreans at the Anaheim convention center... what an amazing group of people... we were blessed.

08-05-2004 - Ontarioooooooooo
We played a concert last night at Koininia Christian Fellowship church in Bloomingdale Ontario. Just outside of Kitchener/Waterloo. And it was smokin!! The church was really high energy and really receptive. They've been doing "Filled with your Glory" during worship at their church for the past couple of months, so they were pretty excited to have us. Anyways, needless to say. it went very well, and the time of worship was rich. It was really refreshing and affirming for us to do a church service like that. Today we are here in Waterloo staying at our relatives house and maybe heading to the mall later....If we've been to your town, we've been to your mall. :)

07-31-2004 - Montreal
We're spending a couple of days in our favorite city! Montreal Canada...we played at Soul Fest in New Hampshire yesterday at a beatiful ski resort surrounded by mountains. It was great! We play at Kingdom Bound, just outside of Buffalo New York in 2 days, so we're chillin in the homeland until then. Oh, and another thing. It's my birthday today...#23...i'm starting to feel old. maybe I should do something with my life. :) get a real job. I'm just kidding, it's all good. well, that's all for now, stay on the up-side. Jon.

07-23-2004 - Creation West.
We played today at Creation West Festival at the Gorge just outside Quincy Washington. It was pretty rad! and there were sooo many Canadians there that came to see us play. We felt special :) So apart from the intense heat, it was a pretty great festival. Even the heat was alright. It was hot but without the crazy humidity of the south. I miss this northern air. Anyways, I'm really sleepy...and all there is on TV is dating shows...so I guess it's time for sleep. Over and out - Jon.

07-21-2004 - Red Moon Rising
I'm reading a book right now called "Red Moon Rising". It's the story about the beginnings of a worldwide prayer movement called 24/7 prayer that began in Europe. Anyways, there's a part in it I wanted to share with y'all. There's a website where people can post thoughts or prayers online, and this is what one soldier in Iraq wrote:

"I'm a soldier in Kuwait/Iraq and need your prayers... In one small town I caught the eyes of a peasant woman of about 25 and felt I was looking into the eyes of Jesus. I smiled at her. She smiled back, and the moment froze in time. I then turned and looked at a little girl about 8. She too smiled, and in her face I saw uncertainty and expectation all mixed up. We moved on down the road past blown up trucks, tanks and cars. There was a Mig 21 still on the ground from the 1991 conflict. I saw a lot of things that I'm not at liberty to discuss, but the greatest thing I felt and what I can't seem to shake was the feeling that Jesus was saying: 'I'm here and I love these people, so tread lightly, this is holy ground.' " Mike, Iraq (May 2003)

Be Blessed! - Jon.

07-17-2004 - Ohioooooooo
For but a brief moment we are home in Nashville...(sigh) we just got back from a concert in Florence Mississippi (just south of Jackson) with Casting Crowns. It went great! Big thanks goes out to Chris from Casting Crowns for filling in for our regular bass player Shaun. the concert was great! Even though we had just driven 24 hours straight from our home in Canada. wow, it's been a crazy couple of days. We leave early tomorrow morning for Dayton Ohio to play a concert with our friend Bethany Dillon! we're really excited! gotta love those Ohio-uns...or ...Ohio-ites....whatever they're called. later Y'all.

07-12-2004 - Cheese Curds
Well, we just came home to Canada for a few days after playing Life-fest in OshKosh Wisconsin. that's right, the place where OshKosh B'Gosh...the children's clothing line began! ...Okay, well I'm making that up, but who knows, maybe it's true. Anyways, the festival was great. Not only did they have free hair-cuts and free massages for the artists, which I took full advantage of, but they of course had a whole lot of Wisconsin Cheese Curds...mm....I think I overdosed on curds... So good. We're now home in Winnipeg, visiting our family and friends here one last time probably before Christmas. 3 days home and then off to Mississippi! - Jon.

07-06-2004 - PS2
well... the boys and i have officially wasted an evening playing video games... 3 straight hours of Bond... pathetic i know... but so much fun! A quick recap of the last few days goes like this: First, we caught all our flights! ... that's news in itself... our gig in Orlando was... interesting! we got rained out about two thirds of the way through and ended up leading worship for about 400 people in a gymnasium with only our acoustic guitars and our voices... quite the experience... it ended up being something really beautiful... the other highlight was a private photo shoot with the veggietales... as soon as we get the photo section of the sight up we'll let y'all see em'

07-03-2004 - faking the video
what is up with reality television !?... these poor people... so horrible... i LOVE it! ... anyway... just hanging at home watching tv... we leave in a few hours for Orlando, FL . Tommorow we play with Mark Schultz, R.J. Helton, and Warren Barfield.... that's right folks: Starfield and Barfield finally on the same stage... I'm pretty sure it's destiny that we eventually tour together ... the starfield/barfield tour... just you wait! Once again we'll be a stone's throw away from Disney World and we won't have time to check it out.... my whole childhood i never even made it to florida... now i'm there once a month and can't seem to find the time...

tim.

06-29-2004 - travel drama
So we're again back in Nashville after 4 airports and close to 1,500 miles of driving... We missed a flight out of Cinncinati and just about stood up the good people of Tulsa, OK at Freedom Live... we did end up making it but had to scale down to two acoustic guitars and two songs! we literally rushed out of the airport to the venue and ran on stage... good times. i thinkg that's all i got for today... oh and one more thing... please email us if you happen to be visiting the site... we LOVE hearing from you! Starfield@starfieldonline.com - Peace!

06-25-2004 - on the run...
just wanted to say a quick wassup! to all those that we're at Creation East in PA this weekend! what a wonderful bunch of people you are! and what a great time Thanks for making us feel so welcome...
