Okay, so I saw Troy last night. It was an amazing, beautiul movie. I enjoyed most of it, and hopefully will see it again.
However, I think that it should have been rated R here in Canada like it is in the U.S. Do NOT be fooled by the PG/14A rating! (my newspaper said PG, the theatre said 14A). I was dismayed to see two children in the row in front of me who were no older than 12. This was by far, NOT, a movie for children.
I'm posting this to let you guys know some of the content so you aren't completely shocked when it appears on the screen.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers. Though a movie that's based on a well known legend has little that hasn't been spoiled already, if you absolutely don't want to know what happens, don't read further.
First off, Brad Pitt is probably nude for a good third of the movie. We don't see full frontal shots of anything incredibly "private", but we do see a lot of everything else. He always sleeps naked, and he never sleeps alone.
Second, for the most part, the movie is full of your typical sword slashes that last a second and you barely see anything, but there are the occasional shots of open wounds and other more violent actions. (The most shocking being a throat that has been slit, which we get many rather long shots of. It's clearly computer generated, but definitely not pretty.)
I have not yet seen The Passion of The Christ, but from what I've heard, if you've seen that movie, this violence is probably small in comparison.

Once again, I'm not telling you all it's a bad movie. Its a wonderful movie. But seeing the Canadian rating on his movie, I feel I should warn those who are unprepared.
ya i wondered about that.. brad and nude stuff.. as well as orly and his kissing girl... i just remember a part in the previews where she disrobes or something? anyways.. i told my friends i can't see it.. they said.. oh come on!! it wont be that bad... but im just protecting my eyes.. better safe than sorry.

What happens with that scene is, (spoiler alert again!) she drops her dress in front of him and they kiss passionately. You don't see anything below her breasts. The scene changes.
The next time you see them, its a sudden shot of her laying on her bed naked. It's the back of her, but you do see her whole body. Paris (Orlando) is standing by the bed, also naked, but anything below the waist is blocked by Helen and the bed.
You also see about three other naked women throughout the movie with Achilles (Brad Pitt), with strategically placed hair or other body parts covering anything that should be covered.
You never see full frontal nudity in this movie, but it is still a lot of skin, so be prepared for it if you're going to see it, and don't bring any youngins.
Thanks for the warning, Sarah! I've rendered myself shocked a few times by the Canadian rating system too. The worst is when producers are creating movies that are clearly R-rated but they pull out just a few things here and there to get a PG-13 rating so that teens (cash market) can go and watch the movie, even if it's still lewd enough to deserve a much higher rating.
For Troy, the MPAA does give it an R rating for this reason: Rated R for graphic violence and some sexuality/nudity. But I have seen it rated lower in Canada, which is scary when younger kids go and see it, like you witnessed.

I feel the exact same way. I actually didn't even realize there was THAT much nudity in it (even though it doesn't show it completely)... Thank you very much for the warning!
