Taking Photos

Webgirl I think you could probably help me out with this a lot, but I'm welcome to the suggestions of others. I have a 35mm auto. camera and I was wondering whats the best setting(s) to put it on when there are lots of bright and colourful lights at concerts and you're trying to get some great photos. I normally just shut the flash off... but is there anything else I could/should try? Digital cameras... does the same thing go for them?

hey.. sorry i didn't get this sooner.. feel free to email me at any time about questions like this at trinity003@shaw.ca (please to whomever also reads this, don't put me on your mailing lists! or msn lists too!) All of those bright/coloured/blurry shots are taken with my digital and I'm assuming at a slower shutter speed. If you want crisp pictures, for instance, at United I used 1600 film (yes the usual film is 400 or something which if you want lots of blurry.. "movement" shots you could use that).. 800 is good too.. but not as crisp/great as 1600. Also get a tripod, those help.. I didn't have one :) It's just good because the shutter will be open longer to get in more light.. but obviously your hand may move/shake even the slightest... so! I have a Canon EOS Rebel G (and I borrowed one for United.. however it was WITH a telephoto.. a must at every concert unless you can get in super close to the stage etc).. and my digital is a Sony S85. However on my digital, you can choose the 'auto' mode and it will just obviously automatically choose whatever speed it wants.. there are other modes so you can adjust your apature opening.. and other things.. my this is technical!
